Francis Xavier Kriengsak Kovitvanit (Thai: ฟรังซิสเซเวียร์ เกรียงศักดิ์ โกวิทวาณิช, RTGS: Kriangsak Kowitwanit, pronounced [krīa̯ŋ.sàk kōː.wít.wāː.nít]; born 27 June 1949) is Archbishop of Bangkok.
Born in Bangkok to ethnic Chinese parents,[1] he entered the St Joseph's Minor Seminary in Sam Phran. From 1970 to 1976 he studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, and was ordained as priest on 11 July 1976. He was first assigned to be assistant priest at the Nativity of Mary Church in Ban Pan, and then at the Epiphany Church Koh Yai (1977–1979). In 1979-1981 he served as vice-rector of St Joseph's Minor Seminary in Sam Phran. He went to the Gregorian University in Rome from 1982 till 1983 to specialize in spirituality.
From 1983 to 1989 he was rector of the Holy Family Intermediate Seminary in Nakhon Ratchasima, and then till 1993 under-secretary of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Thailand, as well as rector of Lux Mundi National Major Seminary in Sam Phran since 1992. In 2000 he became parish priest at the church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Hua Take, and also since 2001 a special lecturer at Sam Phran major seminary. From 2003 until his appointment as bishop, he was parish priest of the Assumption Cathedral and secretary of the council of priests of the Archdiocese of Bangkok.
On 7 March 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him as bishop of Nakhon Sawan, which had been vacant since 2005, when his predecessor Louis Chamniern Santisukniram was made Archbishop of Thare and Nonseng.[2] He was consecrated on 2 June by Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu, whose successor as Archbishop of Bangkok he became on 14 May 2009.[3] Archbishop Kriengsak Kovitvanit was officially installed on 16 August 2009.
On 4 January 2015 it was announced that Pope Francis has appointed him a cardinal. He will eligible to enter a Papal conclave to elect the Pope's successor. He was officially made cardinal on 14 February and at that ceremony, he was appointed Cardinal-Priest of Santa Maria Addolorata.[4]
In April 2015 he was appointed a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. He will hold these memberships until his 80th birthday.

Pope Francis is praying for a group of young boys who have been trapped in an underground cave in Thailand for over a week.
Rescue searchers trying to reach the 12 boys, aged 11-16, and their 26-year-old football coach in a flooded cave complex are using huge pumps to reduce the water level, allowing divers to place guide ropes and oxygen tanks along the route.
Rising floodwater in the cave in the northern province of Chiang Rai has stalled the search-and-rescue operation.
Rescuers in flooded Tham Luang cave were on July 2 trying to penetrate a very narrow passage to "Pattaya Beach," an area of higher ground where the 13 missing people may be sheltering.
Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn said rescuers had managed to reach the Sam Yak three-way junction, but the most critical section of the murky underground labyrinth lies ahead.
A Thai Royal Navy Seal unit was working with about 230 policemen, 840 soldiers and dozens of rescuers and officials from countries around the globe to locate the group.
Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said in Bangkok that the strong water current in the narrow passage presents a major obstacle.
All-out efforts continued to drain water from the cave and prevent fresh water from flowing into it, further raising the water level.
The boys and their coach entered the cave after their football practice on June 23 and the search entered its 10th day on July 2.

and the creatures of the world are wholesome,
and there is not a destructive drug among them
nor any domain of the netherworld on earth,
for justice is undying.
For God formed man to be imperishable;
the image of his own nature he made him.
But by the envy of the devil, death entered the world,
and they who belong to his company experience it.

Brothers and sisters:
As you excel in every respect, in faith, discourse,
knowledge, all earnestness, and in the love we have for you,
may you excel in this gracious act also.
For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that though he was rich, for your sake he became poor,
so that by his poverty you might become rich.
Not that others should have relief while you are burdened,
but that as a matter of equality
your abundance at the present time should supply their needs,
so that their abundance may also supply your needs,
that there may be equality.

Whoever had much did not have more,
and whoever had little did not have less.

There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years.
She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors
and had spent all that she had.
Yet she was not helped but only grew worse.
She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd
and touched his cloak.
She said, "If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured."
Immediately her flow of blood dried up.
She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.
Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him,
turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who has touched my clothes?"
But his disciples said to Jesus,
"You see how the crowd is pressing upon you,
and yet you ask, 'Who touched me?'"
And he looked around to see who had done it.
The woman, realizing what had happened to her,
approached in fear and trembling.
She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth.
He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you.
Go in peace and be cured of your affliction."
While he was still speaking,
people from the synagogue official's house arrived and said,
"Your daughter has died; why trouble the teacher any longer?"
Disregarding the message that was reported,
Jesus said to the synagogue official,
"Do not be afraid; just have faith."
He did not allow anyone to accompany him inside
except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.
When they arrived at the house of the synagogue official,
he caught sight of a commotion,
people weeping and wailing loudly.
So he went in and said to them,
"Why this commotion and weeping?
The child is not dead but asleep."
And they ridiculed him.
Then he put them all out.
He took along the child's father and mother
and those who were with him
and entered the room where the child was.
He took the child by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum,"
which means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise!"
The girl, a child of twelve, arose immediately and walked around.
At that they were utterly astounded.
He gave strict orders that no one should know this
and said that she should be given something to eat.
