Georgetown Jesuit: Our Job Is Not to Bring People to God
“Our job as educators and as priests is not to bring God to people, or even to bring people to God. God’s already there and the people are already there. Our job, our way, of living out our educational vocation is to ask the right questions, and to help young people ask those questions,” says Fr. Ryan Maher, S.J., Georgetown’s associate dean and director of Catholic studies, in the opening to a new video profiling the work of Jesuits on campus.

Gospel – Luke 1:39-56
39 Mary set out and travelled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah,
40 where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit,
42 cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
43 And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
45 Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled.”
would be fulfilled.”
46 And Mary said:“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
47 my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed:
49 the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.
50 He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation.
51 He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
52 He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted up the lowly.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.
54 He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
55 the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever.”
56 Mary remained with her about three months
and then returned to her home.
and then returned to her home.

The Prayer you may like it.
Prayer to Our Lady, Holy Protection of the Theotokos
In remembrance of this miraculous event, let us turn to Our Lady, Holy Protection of the Theotokos, and ask that she intercede for us as she did for the population of Constantinople, all those years ago:
‘O Mary, Mother of God, as you are above all creatures in heaven and on earth, more glorious than the Cherubim, more noble than any here below, Christ has given you to His people, firm bulwark and protectress, to shield and save sinners who fly to you. Therefore, O Lady, all-embracing refuge, we solemnly recall your sweet protection and beg the Christ forever for His mercy. Amen.
May God Bless You.

Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Easter
Lectionary: 287
Reading 1ACTS 15:1-6
Some who had come down from Judea were instructing the brothers,
"Unless you are circumcised according to the Mosaic practice,
you cannot be saved."
Because there arose no little dissension and debate
by Paul and Barnabas with them,
it was decided that Paul, Barnabas, and some of the others
should go up to Jerusalem to the Apostles and presbyters
about this question.
They were sent on their journey by the Church,
and passed through Phoenicia and Samaria
telling of the conversion of the Gentiles,
and brought great joy to all the brethren.
When they arrived in Jerusalem,
they were welcomed by the Church,
as well as by the Apostles and the presbyters,
and they reported what God had done with them.
But some from the party of the Pharisees who had become believers
stood up and said, "It is necessary to circumcise them
and direct them to observe the Mosaic law."
The Apostles and the presbyters met together to see about this matter.

GospelJN 15:1-8
Jesus said to his disciples:
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit,
and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.
You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.
Remain in me, as I remain in you.
Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own
unless it remains on the vine,
so neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit,
because without me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me
will be thrown out like a branch and wither;
people will gather them and throw them into a fire
and they will be burned.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you,
ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.
By this is my Father glorified,
that you bear much fruit and become my disciples."

In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places
Jesus said,
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
